Project overview
An artisanal jewelry and accessories side business that was running from 2020 to 2023. The highest monthly revenue was RM3k. It is now a hobby project due to my work commitment.

Previously available on orentalks.com, now is only at shopee Malaysia store.
My Contributions
I was the business owner. I handled everything from product research, ideation, crafting to operations includes delivery fulfilment, marketing, and finance.

Project Goal
When I was a kid, I would design clothes on my sketchbook and thought that I would become a fashion designer when I grow up. I did not end up designing clothes, but I created my own clay jewelry design and started selling. This is how OrenTalks was born.

Other than limited-edition clay accessories and custom orders, I also curated quality yet affordable metal jewelry and press on nails for those who looked for quality yet affordable accessories. to support and glam you up.

Learnings
From this 3-year small business, I had learnt to start a business lean, and be creative with my resources. I learnt all clay jewelry making and social media marketing tactics online.

No matter how good your product is, you cannot get customers without marketing. I realized how expensive paid ads are, hence decided to focus on social medias. Before I turned OrenTalks into hobby project in 2023, I managed to gain 7k TikTok followers and 2k Instagram followers.

Product-market fit is important, I took in customer feedback and the order data to determine what launch should I do next. Listen to them, and you will get the money.

Timing and environment are crucial for a business. When pandemic happened, everyone was stuck at home and hence online shopping had a boom. After lockdown was lifted, people reduced spending online and went out more frequently. If the external factors aren't treating your business well, you have to do something differently or pivot
